Chambar–I have read/heard so many great reviews of this restaurant in Gastown. Finally had the fortunate opportunity to indulge at this gastronomical restaurant a week back for a nice mini reunion. A good girl friend came back into town for a short visit from Hong Kong and four of us had a girl’s night. It was a relaxing night of reminiscing and fun girl talk. Always so nice to recall old memories and laugh at ourselves.
Battered, roasted & poached halibut, asparagus, mint, tamarind, bacalao, ginger & mustard sauce. I thought this dish was so creative. They made the halibut in 3 different ways. Under the battered fish there was a layer of minced fish. Added a very interesting texture. The poached halibut had a really light texture and the sauce was a great match.
One of the best mussels I’ve ever had. Mussels cooked in a white cream wine sauce with smoked bacon and onions.
Frites were crispy and very hard to resist!
Roasted duck breast, goat cheese & tarragon gnocchi, sauteed scallions, hazelnut gastrique. I really enjoyed this duck. It was very tender and loved the gnocchi with the goat cheese.
9 oz ribeye steak, sun dried tomato, caper & pine nut sauce vierge, roasted mushroom & tomato bruschetta, truffle aioli. I loved all the fresh ingredients that they incorporated into this dish. Especially the roasted mushroom and truffle aioli. Lots of great flavours .
I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the great service of this place and will definitely be back for another night of fun girls time.

I finally had a welcome back dinner with my friend May and her stories of Cayman Islands at our favorite French place Salad de Fruits cafe. Since our first time there we have been back a few times and the quality of food never changes. I love the unique, cozy atmosphere and the service is always great. As usual we ordered more than we could chew.
It was my first time having this dish. It tasted creamy, almost like soft cheese. I quite enjoyed it.
My favorite dish. The portion is huge and the frites are so addictive.
Not too sweet and just the right amount of green tea flavor.
Twisted Fork Bistro– Girl’s night is always the best way to end a hectic week. I was ready for a calorie feast Friday night so we ended up at Twisted Fork Bistro. The place is tiny and they do not take reservations so we headed there straight after work. Although it was early the bistro was already packed and smelling delicious.
I can not begin to describe how good this butter was. It tasted freshly whipped and light. It tasted delicious with the warm bread.
The frites was a mixture of sweet and gold potatoes. The cream sauce was very rich and creamy. I prefer more sauce like mussels from Salade De Fruits.
Corner Suite Bistro— Celebrated my achievement in aging last weekend with a dinner with my closest friends. The ambiance of this place is great. The turquoise chairs had a great impact and I loved the slits on the edge tables which were used to hang our napkins. There are also hooks located under the table to hang our purses which is a wonderful idea!
With all the chit chatting I didn’t really get a chance to review the menu closely and was frazzled by the large drink menu that they had. It was so comprehensive that it even needed a Table of Content. With no strong ideas, I decided to try the 24/7 which is a daily 2 course tasting menu. With so much noise around me I didn’t get a full description of the food, so I will give my best interpretation.
This was very tasty. The portion was small but it had big flavors with a great complimenting fruity sauce.
The second course was fish. It was very flaky and fresh, however it was a little too salty for me which concealed the sweetness of the fish and made the dish a little overwhelming. Overall, It was a good dish.
My friend ordered this and I just had to try it. It was deeply flavored and cheesy. I would have to say one of the best French Onion Soup I have tasted.
I found this dish so interesting. It’s a cheese sandwich with an egg on top served with salad and potato chips. Didn’t get a chance to try this but it’s definitely something that I would love to indulge for brunch.
One of the guys ordered an Organic Beer which I was impressed with because I have never heard of such a thing.
It was light, something close to a Corona.
Most of the others had The beef tenderloin & frites, blue cheese butter, arugula. They really enjoyed the beef tenderloin, however most people thought that the frites were a little too salty. I say overall, this is a great place for drinks and casual food. I would suggest items of the normal menu in order to capture the real essence of the bistro. The atmosphere is great and the service was good. I would definitely come back and try the brunch menu and something of the regular dinner menu as well.

The most interesting thing about this cafe is that it is directly connected to the community center with some seating in the corridor. It is a very small place with cozy decorations and seating. Definitely not a place to lounge around but a place to devour authentic French cuisine.
My friend suggested that we try the Table D’Hote which is a weekly special 3-course meal for $21.99. It is certainly a great deal for a 3-course meal! We also ordered another appetizer, 2 more entrees and an extra dessert! It was obviously way too much food for just the 2 of us but my dear friend is a food junkie and I was totally up for it=)
Spinach Goat Cheese, Bacon Bites Vinaigrette Salad–A very light salad with just the right amount of goat cheese.
Escargots–There were no shells and the butter, garlic sauce was heavenly. We soaked our bread in this and YUM is all I can say=)
Caramelized Onion Tart–The pastry was flaky and the tart was nice and warm. The onion filling had a sweet flavour.
Seafood Medley baked in a scallop shell with cheese with mash and veggies—–The cheese was creamy and the variety of seafood was pleasing.
Peppercorn Steak and Frites—-The steak was tender and juicy but the main star was definitely the Frites! The frites were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Slighty salted and it came with delicious mayo (don’t ask for ketchup, they don’t serve it there with frites)!
Caramel Apple Crepe—-The best caramel sauce ever!!!! Can’t even explain it..the caramel sauce is just great. And the real whip cream was certainly an added extra=)
Ice-cream Puffs with whip cream and chocolate sauce–This is like a cream puff but with ice-cream instead and chocolate sauce. It wasn’t too sweet and the ice-cream was delish. I really enjoyed this.
This cafe has great, authentic French food and a lot of variety. They even serve rabbit meat. I will absolutely be back=)
