It was my first experience having high tea in Hong Kong. My dad and I shared an afternoon tea set for two @ $318 (HkD).
There was a wide selection of teas and a nice blend of savories and sweets. The servers were also very tentative and refilled our pots very frequently.  The only disappointment was the scones. Scones are usually my favorite, however these ones were hard and dry. Definitely not made in-house or fresh.  The grilled ham & cheese and the prawn polenta cakes was definitely the high light.

During my trip in Asia, eating was on the very top of the list for me. I love trying new cuisines and tasting different flavours especially in a new environment where foods can taste so different. The first stop was in Seoul, Korea where kimchi was served almost every meal, then off to Beijing – the home of Peking Duck, then I made my way down China through Fuzhou where seafood is so fresh. Did late night dim sum in Guangzhou then finally to Hong Kong where there is an abundance of hybrid cuisines. Here are some highlights below!

Bonchaz– About a month ago I was given a Goodnews coupon gift for a lunch deal at Bonchaz. I have always wanted to try their Bonchaz buns so I was really excited about the gift. You would think that since the cafe is located in downtown and only a few blocks from work that I would have used it instantly. Not the case.

I finally found time to check out the cafe this past week and I’m so glad that I did. The coupon deal was for 2 sandwich and soup combos with 2 Bonchaz buns for only $6.95! What a great deal!

original, banana-walnut bonchaz

These buns are delicious. They remind me of Chinese pineapple buns but less sweet. The buns were soft and I really enjoyed the sweet topping. Although both flavors were great I personally prefer the original with no filling inside. All the buns are baked fresh in store. Can’t wait to go back and give the matcha a try.

Jean Philippe Patisserie– I’m not much of a sweet tooth but this place is an exception. Filled with yummy amounts of chocolate, pastries and cakes! I was literally slobbering all over myself as I wondered through the shop.

The set up is quite unique and a brilliant one. They show case all the delicacies in the center and have the till at the very end of the roundabout. This way as costumers you are forced to visually indulge while waiting in line which entices (well at least me) to buy more. However, I had my trusty partner in crime who is always there to slow me down when I get ahead of myself =)

Chocolate Croissant

Simply. Delectable.
